Large heavy statue of a young man titled “Sans Famille”
23” tall with 6” round base about 6¼ lb.
Cast Iron

My research of its origin tells me:
The green/gold faux-bronze/verdigris finish and gold highlights possibly French/Belgian, roughly 1890–1930

The statue features a plaque that reads “Sans Famille” which is French for “without family” and is the title of Hector Malot’s famous 1878 novel about Rémi, an orphaned boy who wanders France with a traveling performer. Around 1900, makers often turned popular literary characters into decorative statues. The clothing and posture here match that theme: a resilient street/traveling boy on the move.

See picture 6 for details:
There is a surface/finish crack along the back. It doesn’t feel fragile but it may be. I did not notice any other damage but paint finish is not perfect. Please see the pictures for what to expect.

Probably an interior only statue but I loved having it outside.
